We recently hosted our very first free Careers Club in collaboration with MAMAHUB, where 30 Dubai Mums gathered for a coffee and breakfast at Sandersons to meet like-minded Mums to discuss their current dilemmas when it comes to juggling their career since having a baby.
Some Mums were interested in starting their own businesses, others were worrying about their return to work, some wanted to change careers all together, and others were just feeling a bit lost so needed some inspo!
And that inspiration came by the bucketload from our expert panel who covered topics from loss of identity to how to set up a trade license and all sorts of relatable Mum-chat in between.
- Sarah Brooks from Fikrah HR was able answer all questions about a Mums rights in the workplace pre and post-baby and shared her own learnings from setting up a company in the UAE
- Carina Harvey, a Personal Identity Coach who pulls on her experience with NLP, Styling and Life Purpose Coaching to help the Mums feel confident in their identity. Carina is also working with organisation who support Mums back into the work place
- Rachel from MAMAHUB shared some very exciting developments to the Mama Hub community which will be especially beneficial to Freelance Mums. She also candidly shared her own reasons for leaving corporate and starting Mama Hub
- Alexis from Creative Zone was on hand to explain how to set up a company in the UAE, the kinds of licenses available and how to avoid common pitfalls
I really enjoyed moderating the panel and sharing my own career journey since becoming a Mum, but the best part was leaving knowing that I wasn't the only Mum working through these complex situations and emotions.
One book that I recommended during our panel was Be A Free Range Human, I'm only half way through but it offers a great perspective on leaving corporate life and designing a career that works for you. It also asks some great questions to help you identify the route that is best suited to you. I'd love to hear your book recommendations in the comments.
